‘Teddy and the Guardians of the Night’ to Become a Feature Film at Netflix

by Mark McCurley

Coming in from The Hollywood Reporter, Teddy and the Guardians of the Night will be the inspiration for a family adventure film at Netflix.

Based on the illustration by fantasy artist Alex Panagopoulos, Teddy and the Guardians of the Night is depicted as a toy teddy bear protecting a sleeping child from a vicious monster in her bedroom.

Netflix has picked up distribution rights to the film in collaboration with Seven Bucks Productions.

Dwayne Johnson, Dany Garcia and Beau Flynn will be producers and the screenplay will be written by Josh Stolberg and Bobby Florsheim.

It was in 2013 when Seven Bucks President of Production Hiram Garcia discovered the illustration. He sensed there was an idea in it for a potential movie.

He soon optioned the rights for a film that could be based on it.

In a statement, Garcia said, “At Seven Bucks, we’re always on the hunt for content that can help inspire our next big story. From the moment I saw Alex’s incredible drawing, I knew there was something special there that our global audiences could respond to. We’re excited to add to our growing slate with Netflix and share this story with the world.”

A production start date has not yet been determined, check back soon for more as details are announced.
