The final curtain drops on the undead this fall.
The midseason finale of the 11th and final season of AMC’s landmark zombie series The Walking Dead aired last evening, and a new teaser was unveiled that looks ahead to this fall’s last block of eight episodes. Check out the video–courtesy of comicbook.com–on this page.
This last season has been broken down into three eight-episode segments, with the third and final block airing on AMC and AMC+ on an unannounced date later this year. And showrunner Angela Kang said during a recent interview that the last eight episodes will “continue to get increasingly more intense.”
Kang hinted at some “really surprising turns that people will not see coming. And it’s emotional. We are focusing on a lot of our characters and getting into their various stories. We’re feeling there’s a legacy to these characters and how far they’ve come.”
Kang also discussed the recent shooting wrap of the final season, calling the experience “surreal. A lot of tears were shed over many days, but also a lot of love was exchanged. We’re all going to be in touch, so don’t even say goodbye.”
Of course, with the untitled Daryl and Carol spinoff and the Manhattan-set Isle of the Dead in the works and slated to debut next year, it won’t be farewell for a lot of the living and the undead.
Kang was hesitant to expound on the spinoffs and the possibility of crossovers, but did say “it’s great to see there are characters who are going to have a life beyond. And that means there’s possibilities for everybody else, too.”
