It’s only 20 seconds, but it certainly sets the stage.

A too-brief clip from AMC’s upcoming adaptation of Anne Rice’s classic Interview with the Vampire dropped this week, but fans will sense the vitality of New Orleans before they get an ominous glimpse of the vampire Lestat. Check out the teaser–courtesy of collider.com–on this page.

The small-screen version of the 1976 horror novel–slated for a fall debut on AMC–stars Sam Reid as Lestat, Jacob Anderson as Louis, Bailey Bass as Claudia, Assad Zaman as Rashid, Christian Robinson as Levi, Kalyne Coleman as Grace and Eric Bogosian as the interviewer Daniel Molloy.

The eight-episode first season–led by creator and showrunner Rolin Jones and director Alan Taylor–carries with it “great pressure and responsibility,” according to executive producer Mark Johnson. “We need to make sure this story and these characters sing for a modern audience.”

Horror fans will recall the 1994 Silver Screen adaptation of the novel that starred Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt, Kirsten Dunst and Christian Slater. That movie–and presumably the upcoming TV series–follows the otherworldly adventures of the vampires Lestat and Louis, beginning with Louis’ transformation by Lestat back in 1791.
