Little has been revealed about this animated continuation of the adventures of the fire-breathing Japanese prehistoric turtle monster, but Gamera is expected to face off against various enemies “to save a city in peril.” The show–currently in production–has not announced its cast members.
Gamera–last seen in 2006’s Gamera the Brave–was created by Daiei Films to compete with Toho’s Godzilla, and debuted in 1965’s Gamera, the Giant Monster. The creature has evolved through a dozen film appearances from a destructive kaiju into a protector of humanity.
A key difference between Gamera and Godzilla is the gargantuan turtle’s ability to fly, using “jets” that can be ignited from its limb holes when it retracts its legs into its shell. Eat your heart out, Godzilla.
