The new series–expected to debut on AMC this summer–will focus on both new and established TWD characters. Cast member announcements are being held close to the vest, but it is believed that familiar faces may include Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Beta of the Whisperers (Ryan Hurst).
Channing Powell–the writer/producer of The Walking Dead and Fear the Walking Dead–will act as showrunner for the new series, working closely with TWD chief content officer Scott M. Gimple.
Powell said the show’s writers are working to expand the boundaries of TWD’s universe, aiming to bring fans “something new and unexpected, while hopefully still tending to what core audiences loved so much about the flagship show.”
Gimple added that this new show will run on “new voices, perspectives and ideas–bringing to life stories unlike any we’ve told before.”
