The ever-expanding universe of The Walking Dead is ready for a summer explosion.
Tales of the Walking Dead–the latest spinoff of the AMC zombie phenomenon–will debut this summer with six one-hour standalone episodes that will spotlight new and established characters.
And this week, AMC revealed the directors for the first season and the first five actors who will appear in the series, as reported by Deadline. The spinoff is led by executive producer Scott M. Gimple–chief content officer for TWD–and showrunner Channing Powell–writer/producer on TWD and Fear the Walking Dead.
The initial cast for the series will include Anthony Edwards (Inventing Anna), Parker Posey (Lost In Space), Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine–Nine), Poppy Liu (Dead Ringers) and Jillian Bell (Rough Night).
Behind the cameras, Haifaa al-Mansour (Motherland), Deborah Kampmeier (Star Trek: Picard) and Tara Nicole Weyr (Bosch) will each direct one episode, while series producer Michael Satrazemis (TWD) will helm three episodes.
Gimple said the announced actors are “the first wave of singular talents who will further expand The Walking Dead universe into harrowing, hilarious, heartfelt and horrifying new realms. More announcements to come.”
Gimple added that “the very charge of the show is being different.” The series will accent different themes, he said. “Some weeks, about horror. Some weeks, black comedy. Different time periods in the apocalypse.”
