The role must be habit-forming.
As expected, Taissa Farmiga will reprise her role as Sister Irene in the forthcoming The Nun 2, the sequel to the 2018 horror entry in The Conjuring universe, according to a report on Deadline.
Farmiga joins Storm Reid, who was recently cast opposite Bonnie Aarons, who is returning in her role as the demon Valak in the sequel.
The horror pic–slated to start shooting soon in France–is directed by Michael Chavez (The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It) from a screenplay by Akela Cooper (Malignant). Produced by James Wan and Peter Safran, The Nun 2 is set for theatrical release Sept. 8, 2023.
The film–said to be set in France in 1956–witnesses “an evil spreading,” according to the brief synopsis. In the sequel, Sister Irene “once again comes face-to-face with the demonic force of Valak.”
The original The Nun–directed by Corin Hardy and scripted by Gary Dauberman–follows “a priest with a haunted past and a novice on the threshold on her final vows” who are sent by the Vatican to investigate the death of a young nun in 1952 Romania “and confront a malevolent force in the form of a demonic nun.”
Despite mixed reviews, The Nun performed well at the box office, earning an impressive $365.5 million worldwide on a $22-million budget.
