Alien 3, the sequel to James Cameron’s wildly successful and influential follow-up film to Ridley Scott’s Alien, entered theaters on May 22 of 1992 with great expectations.  To say that those expectations were unfulfilled would be an understatement.  First time director David Fincher (who would go on to make some of the greatest films of the past thirty years) did his best with material that he had, but countless re-writes, studio interference, and mismarketing doomed the picture and disappointed fans and critics alike.   read more

William Gibson’s ‘Alien 3’ Script to be Adapted by Dark Horse Comics in November

Fans of Ridley Scott’s original Alien film and James Cameron’s Aliens eagerly awaited the release of the third film in the series in 1992, helmed by first time director Davis Fincher.  Although Fincher would later be forgiven many times over (Seven, Fight Club, Zodiac) most of those fans walked out of the theater on May 22 of that year disappointed and confused.

What fans did not know at the time that Alien 3 was released was that a script by sci-fi legend William Gibson (Neuromancer, Count Zero, Mona Lisa Overdrive) had been scraped at the eleventh hour, resulting in a rushed production that took the film in a very different direction. read more
