Trailer drops for “Godzilla: Monster Planet”

While my knowledge of anime is highly limited, my love for Godzilla is not, so you can bet your buns I was pretty psyched to find out that the anime arm of Toho Co., Ltd. (who created the legendary king of monsters) is releasing an anime film later this year titled Godzilla: Monster Planet.

The film takes place years into the future in a world run by monsters. The humans must attempt to take Earth back from the ruling creatures which includes the beloved Godzilla; I’m guessing that this will be no easy feat. read more

Rest in Peace: Original ‘Godzilla’ Suit Actor Haruo Nakajima Dead at 88

We here at Horror News Network are saddened to report that Haruo Nakajima, the talented actor who portrayed the legendary Godzilla in every film from the original 1954 classic to 1972’s Godzilla vs. Gigan, has passed away at the age of 88. Nakajima’s other monster roles included Toho, Mothra, and even King Kong in 1967’s King Kong Escapes. Before his big break into famous monster characters, Nakajima performed in small roles in Japanese samurai and war films. He even played the part of a bandit in Akira Kurosawa’s Seven Samurai. read more

Godzilla Anime Film Will Debut on Netflix in 2017

According to the Anime News Network, an animated Godzilla film is being produced by Toho Studios and Polygon Pictures for a late 2017 debut on Netflix.

The film (which marks the first time that Godzilla has appeared in an anime film) is directed by Kubon Shizuno (Detective Conan: the Darkest Nightmare) and Hiroyuki Seshita (Knights of Sidonia).

The concept art appears futuristic and may transport the “thunder lizard” to an untraditional setting.

No date for the film’s release has been announced at this time, but more information should be provided soon, as “The film will have a stage event at AnimeJapan 2017 on Sunday, March 26. The six main voice actors will appear at the event.” read more

Shin Godzilla Finishes Second in Yearly Japanese Box Office

With the announcement of Godzilla 2’s director being named this week (Michael Dougherty),the upcoming release of Kong: Skull Island in early March, and an upcoming Rampage film in the works,  it is clear that people all over the world still get excited about giant monsters.

The homeland of the “King of Monsters” is no different as Shin Godzilla finished second in overall box office returns for 2016 in Japan.  Shin Godzilla (also known as Godzilla Resurgence) finished second only to Anime sensation Your Name in terms of ticket sales, ending with $75,398,709 at the Japanese box office.  It was also the highest grossing Godzilla film in the history of the character in Japan. read more

Trailer for Toho’s ‘Godzilla Resurgence’ Released

The first trailer in the reboot of Toho’s Godzilla franchise has been released.   Godzilla Resurgence is a full reboot of the series and the first film since 2004’s Godzilla: Final Wars to be released.   Neon Genesis Evangelion co-creator Hideaki Anno and Gamera storyboard artist Shinji Higuchi co-directed the film.   Hideaki wrote the script to the film, which will premiere in Japan July 29th.
