After a mild summer, the fall heats up with a cornucopia of films for horror fans. The fall schedule brings us highly anticipated remakes and sequels such as Halloween, Suspiria, and The Predator, potential franchise starters such as The Nun, Venom, and Overlord, as well as some scary movies that the whole family can enjoy including The House With the Clock In It’s Walls and Goosebumps 2: Haunted Halloween. IMAX is on a roll lately when it comes to offering up classic material on their screens in ways we’ve never seen or heard them before. Just this week, the big-screen cinema brand completed a 50th anniversary run of Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, and soon Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D will tower over moviegoers with booming high definition sound!
The Associated Press reports that Michael Jackson’s estate and the IMAX company are partnering to digitally remaster Michael Jackson’s Thriller 3D for a special theatrical presentation ahead of director Eli Roth’s The House with a Clock in Its Walls. read more
Variety is reporting that Cate Blanchett could soon be signing on to Eli Roth’s adaptation of John Bellairs book, The House with a Clock in Its Walls as neighborhood witch Mrs. Zimmerman. The production, brought to us by Amblin Entertainment and American Mythology Entertainment, has already announced that Jack Black will play the eccentric Uncle Jonathan.
The film is based on the 1973 novel which centers around 10 year-old Lewis Barnavelt. Lewis goes on to visit his uncle in Michigan and starts to unearth a world of creepiness in his Uncle Jonathan’s house. He uncovers that his uncle is a warlock, which is when the journey takes a turn for the worse. read more
Death Wish, The 1974 Charles Bronson classic, and its sequels were not exactly horror movies; but they weren’t afraid of going to some very dark places. Eli Roth, the controversial horror writer/director, is known for going to many of those very same places. While his reputation may be changing a bit with his recent restrained psychological thriller, Knock Knock and his upcoming children’s movie, The House with a Clock in its Walls, horror fans know Roth is always ready to take his vision to grotesque new heights. It’s common knowledge that showing your kids an Eli Roth movie would likely result in an immediate visit from Child Protective Services. That all changes with today’s announcement that the controversial director of such films as Hostel and The Green Inferno will be adapting a popular children’s book into a feature film! THR reports that Roth will be teaming up with Jack Black to bring John Belliers’ The House With a Clock In Its Walls to the silver screen.
