Spyglass Media to Produce New ‘Scream’ Film

Just in from Deadline, a fifth entry in the legendary Scream franchise is in early development by Spyglass Media.

There are no details as to who will be writing or directing for the new entry which comes after the passing of franchise creator Wes Craven in 2015.

The Scream film franchise began with the original film in 1996, followed by Scream 2 in 1997, Scream 3 in 2000 and Scream 4 in 2011. The series was based around the life and the mishaps of Sydney Prescott played by Neve Campbell, who was stalked by the fearsome Ghost Face killer who wore the same mask but always by a different person. Other regular cast members include David Arquette as police officer Dwight “Dewey” Riley and Courtney Cox as news reporter Gale Weathers. read more

‘Scream’ Television Series Gets New Channel, New Release Date, New Trailer

Things went quiet for a while there on the status of MTV’s third-season reboot of their Scream television series. It turns out there was a lot going on behind the scenes, and we now know a whole lot more about the project as it nears closer to completion.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news that the franchise has moved from MTV to VH1 (both channels are owned by Viacom) and the next entry in the television series will now be called Scream: Resurrection. Instead of running thirty-minute episodes weekly, the entire season will run in three two-hour intervals from July 8th to July 10th. Such a rapid pace will surely maintain the momentum of the franchise’s signature “whodunnit” formula. read more
