‘Preacher’ Renewed by AMC for Fourth Season

Preacher fans prayers have been answered, as AMC just announced that the series based on Garth Ennis and Steve Dillon’s classic Vertigo Comics series will begin production on their fourth season at the start of the new year in Australia, according to Deadline.

David Madden, the President of Programming, Entertainment Networks for AMC praised the show’s originality, saying that “Preacher is a show unlike any other on television” and one that has “A passionate base of fans found their way to Jesse, Tulip and Cassidy and have followed along with their adventures, at times indescribable adventures, for three seasons. We are thankful to our partners at Sony and to Seth, Evan and Sam for everything they have brought to this series, which we are pleased to renew for a fourth season. Like the superfans of Preacher, we can’t wait to see where this journey leads next.” read more

First Trailer for ‘Preacher’ Season Three Released

Fans of writer Garth Ennis and the AMC adaptation of his outrageous genre-bending comic Preacher finally have a trailer for season 3 (which debuts on June 24 at 10:00 p.m.) and it is a doozy.

This season will certainly reveal more of Jesse’s past, as he is reunited with his devilish grandmother and degenerate uncles.  According to the official AMC press release, “In Season 3, Jesse Custer’s quest for God takes him back to the place he’s been avoiding his whole life: home.  Jesse, Tulip, and Cassidy return to Angelville, the Louisiana Plantation where Jesse was raised, and find old grudges and deadly obligations await them.  With the help of his friends — and a few enemies — Jesse will need to escape his past… because the future of the world depends on it.” read more

AMC Announces Casting of the Custer Family in ‘Preacher’ Season Three

AMC announced the actors who will be portraying Jesse Custer’s estranged family in Preacher Season 3 today, and for those who are not familiar with the Garth Ennis/Steve Dillon source material, things are about to get a lot more harrowing for our trio of misfits.

Tony award winner Betty Buckley (Supergirl, Split) will play the supernaturally gifted Gran’ma, Colin Cunningham (Falling Skies) plays the perverse TC,  and Jeremy Childs (The Last Castle, Nashville)  plays the sadistic Jody. read more

Amazon Orders Full Season of Garth Ennis Comic Adaptation ‘The Boys’

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Amazon just added Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s  twisted superhero satire The Boys to their schedule, ordering an eight episode first season.

The dark comedy will be produced by the team that also brought Ennis’ Preacher to the small screen, Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.

Amazon Studios’ head of scripted series Sharon Tal Yguado stated that “In a landscape saturated with superhero shows, The Boys is the next evolution in this popular genre.  With Eric, Evan, Seth and Original Film all behind this series, we are excited to adapt this popular comic, from the visionary minds of Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, for television.” read more

‘Preacher’ Renewed for Season Three

According to executive producer Seth Rogen, AMC’s Preacher will return for a third season in 2018.

Rogen tweeted out the following announcement on his official twitter account yesterday:

For those of you that need to catch up on Preacher Season Two, the Blu-ray set will be released on November 14th.  Critics reacted to season two very favorably (90% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes), but the ratings did dip a bit from the first season.  The first season averaged well over 3 million total viewers while the second season brought in an average somewhere in the range of 2.5 million viewers. read more

Graham McTavish and Richard Armitage Join Cast of Netflix’s ‘Castlevania’

What do The Hobbit and Castlevania have in common? Up until last week, nothing; but that’s all about to change! Adi Shankar, the producer of the upcoming Netflix animated series based on Konami’s popular Castlevania series, recently announced that two well-known Dwarves from Peter Jackson’s adaptation of The Hobbit have been cast as voice actors in key roles for the upcoming show!

Graham McTavish, who played Dwalin in The Hobbit and The Saint of Killers in Preacher, appeared in Shankar’s announcement video to reveal that he has been cast as Dracula in Castlevania. He also reported that his Hobbit co-star, Richard Armitage (The Hobbit’s Thorin Oakenshield and Hannibal‘s Francis Dolarhyde), will voice the legendary protagonist, Trevor Belmont. read more

Karen Berger’s Dark Horse Imprint Establishes a New Line of Creator-Owned Comic Books and Graphic Novels for Publisher

According to a recent press release from Dark Horse Comics, Karen Berger, the award-winning comic book editor and the founder of DC Comics’ Vertigo line, will “acquire, edit, and oversee Berger Books, a new line of creator-owned comic books and graphic novels to be published by Dark Horse Comics.”

Berger, who was the guiding force behind some of the greatest comic stories ever told (including Alan Moore’s Swamp Thing, Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman, Garth Ennis’ Helllblazer and Preacher, and Grant Morrison’s Doom Patrol to only name a few), will bring some of her “magic” to Dark Horse Comics in the near future. read more

Preacher Artist Steve Dillon Dead at 54

As reported by the Hollywood Reporter, Preacher co-creator and artist Steve Dillon is dead at 54 years old.

Dillon’s untimely passing came as a shock to many in the comic community and is even more tragic due to the recent success of AMC’s Preacher series.  Entertainment Weekly quoted DC Entertainment Group Editor Marie Javins saying that “His name, along with writer Garth Ennis, is practically synonymous with Preacher,”  said in a statement obtained by EW. “But I know him as a lovable wisecracker who enjoyed New York, and could always be depended on to deliver a sly remark. Steve had a great sense of humor; it’s fitting his last work for DC was a cover of a tin foil Dogwelder. To the rest of the world, he’s a giant among creators and artists. He will be missed by us all here at DC and Vertigo.”  read more
