‘Pacific Rim Uprising’ Release Date Pushed Back By a Month to March 2018

According to deadline, the sequel to Guillermo del Toro’s kajiu vs. robot smash fest Pacific Rim, Pacific Rim Uprising, is moving into a crowded March 2018 schedule, but away from a potential box office heavy weight, on Friday March 23rd.

Although the sequel (directed by Steven S. DeKnight who will be making his silver screen debut after a number of television writing and directing jobs) moves into a crowded March with A Wrinkle in Time (March 9th), Tomb Raider (March 16th), Robin Hood (March 23rd), and Ready Player One (March 30th), it does move far away from Black Panther which debuts on February 16th and all current signs point to a long reign for King T’Challa at the box office. read more

Guillermo del Toro Confirms that Hellboy Three Will Not Happen

Guillermo del Toro confirmed today via Twitter that Hellboy Three “will not happen” in the future, or ever, for that matter.

The tweet crushed hopes of Hellboy and Mignolaverse fans worldwide, although the posibilities of another sequel to the film was unlikely due to del Toro’s busy schedule and penchant for starting and then cancelling or abandoning projects. read more

John Boyega Shares Sneak Peek at His Character in Pacific Rim: Uprising

Guillermo del Toro’s Pacific Rim earned approximately $102 million domestic on a $190 million production budget. Normally this kind of performance would keep a studio from ever considering a sequel. However, the film earned another $309 million in the international box office, making it a major worldwide moneymaker.

After a couple of years of uncertainty, Legendary Pictures committed to a sequel. Steven DeKnight has taken over directing duties from del Toro, despite having previously directed just a few television episodes. The movie will introduce new characters in addition to some of the favorites who survived the events of the last film. One of those new characters will be played by John Boyega, of Star Wars: Episode VII- The Force Awakens fame. In Uprising, Boyega will play Jake Pentecost, the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost from the first film.
