‘Locke and Key’ Will Finally Be Adapted for Television Courtesy of Netflix

It took a long time to find the right “key” (eight years in fact), but IDW’s critically acclaimed horror comic book Locke & Key will finally get adapted for television, as Netflix is officially moving forward with the series.

The Hollywood Reporter broke the news and have confirmed that the series is a go and will consist of 10 hour long episodes.  Netflix will also not be picking up the already-made pilot, written by Joe Hill and directed by Andy Muschietti, as the company will instead recast and redevelop the series. read more

’30 Days of Night’ Issue #2: The Horror News Network Review

This week sees the second issue drop for the reboot of Steve Niles’ horror comic classic, 30 Days of Night.  While many fans, including myself, weren’t quite sure what to expect from what IDW Publishing describes as a “reimagining” of the title that led to a major motion picture, as well as put Niles firmly on the map.

Without spoilers, I will just say Eben’s role changes in this version quite a bit.  Niles story telling flows with the right amount of banter and action sequences.  30 Days of Night #2 starts to really get into the heart of what readers can expect and about the creatures that are soon to befall the small Alaskan town once the sun goes down. read more

‘Frankenstein, Alive, Alive’ to Conclude 10 Months After Wrightson’s Passing

Bittersweet news was announced today by IDW regarding “Frankenstein, Alive, Alive.” Started back in 2012, the four-issue series was a long-term effort by writer Steve Niles and artist Bernie Wrightson. The first two books in the series were published in 2012, but the third book did not appear until 2014. With Niles and Wrightson together, two greats in the industry and both awardees of the ComicMonsters.com Horror Comic Achievement Awards, this was a book the fans adored even though the wait for each issue grew longer. When Wrightson died on March 18, 2017, it was believed that this series would not be concluded. However, publisher IDW announced today that the fourth and concluding issue of “Frankenstein, Alive, Alive” would be released in January 2018. read more

LOCKE & KEY TV Series Coming From IDW Entertainment

Joe Hill’s comic book series Locke & Key had a TV pilot in 2010-11 that didn’t take off, and is again being developed into a TV series.   IDW Entertainment, which published the comic books, is developing the series.   Hill will write the pilot and executive produce. Circle of Confusion (The Walking Dead) is developing it internally with IDW, after which it will be taken to cable/digital networks.

Hill said, “I love this story. The seven years I spent working on Locke & Key was the happiest creative experience of my life and there still isn’t a day when I don’t think about those characters and miss visiting with them. The six books of the series are very like six seasons of a cable TV series and so it feels only natural to bring that world to the little screen and to see if we can’t scare the pants off viewers everywhere.” read more
