American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family and Property Petitions Netflix to Cancel Amazon Prime’s ‘Good Omens’

They say that “the Devil is in the details”, but it appears that the American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property was more concerned with the Devil, than the details in the case of Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s Good Omens adaptation.

The organization (also known as The Christian Return to Order) got a little too hot under the collar about the new Amazon Prime series, and forgot which streaming service was responsible for the “…mockery of God’s Order and religion…”.  The petition (since removed from their website) demanded that Netflix remove the series from the airwaves, and asked signers to send the message to “…Netflix that we will not stand silent as they destroy the barriers of horror we still have for evil.”  The American Society for the Defense of Tradition, Family, and Property was able to elicit over 20,000 signatures before they realized that they were petitioning the wrong streaming service. read more

Get Ready for the Apocalypse with the New Trailer for Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s ‘Good Omens’

Preventing the Apocalypse is never an easy undertaking, especially when a demon and angel are forced to collaborate after that whole “battle for heaven” ordeal.  This is, of course, the subject of the late Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s 1990 novel entitled Good Omens, and soon you will be able to enjoy their tale in a completely new medium on Amazon Prime on May 31.

Good Omens stars David Tennant as the devilish Crowley and Michael Sheen as the angelic Aziraphale.  They are joined by Jon Hamm, Michael McKean, Miranda Richardson, Sam Taylor Buck (as the juvenile Antichrist, Adam Young), and Benedict Cumberbatch as Satan himself. read more

Neil Gaiman Signs Exclusive Deal with Amazon for Upcoming Television Series

Good Omens won’t launch on Amazon Prime Video until 2019, but the streaming giant is already preparing for even more new television series from Neil Gaiman! The visionary writer behind such media crossover hits as The Sandman, Coraline, and American Gods, will now be working exclusively with Amazon for global distribution of upcoming series.

Variety reports that the announcement came at an Amazon “show-and-tell” event in London on Tuesday. The deal will see Gaiman, “move to Amazon from production and distribution giant Fremantle, with which he had signed a multi-year first-look deal just last year and which produces American Gods. It is unclear what happened to that partnership.” read more

Michael Sheen and David Tennant Cast in Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett’s ‘Good Omens’

Variety is reporting that Michael Sheen (Midnight in Paris, Masters of Sex) and David Tennant (Dr. Who, Jessica Jones) have been cast in the Amazon TV adaptation of the Neil Gaiman/Terry Pratchett collaboration Good Omens.  The 2006 book by Gaiman and the late Pratchett is a genre bending tale full of dry humor, wit, and of course, the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse.

According to the report, “The show is set in 2018 on the brink of an apocalypse as humanity prepares for a final judgment. But Aziraphale, a somewhat fussy angel, and Crowley, a demon, (who are also best friends, in spite of the difficult circumstances and sides that they are on) aren’t enthusiastic about the end of the world, and can’t seem to find the Antichrist. Sheen will play the role of Aziraphale, while Tennant will play Crowley. It will consist of six one-hour episodes.” read more
