‘Weird Fantasy’ TV Series and William Gaines Biopic in the Works From Hivemind

Big news for fans of the classic EC Comics library as it was announced via a press release that Hivemind will be partnering with the estate of former EC Comics Publisher, William Gaines to produce a Weird Fantasy TV series as well as a feature film based on the life of Gaines.

“The EC library is a timeless literary achievement that deserves to stand alongside the works of Stephen King, Philip K. Dick, and H.P. Lovecraft,” said producer and Hivemind Co-President Dinesh Shamdasani. “WEIRD FANTASY is a truly historic property that shattered many barriers, and our goal is to make the television series just as fearless and forward-thinking as the stories that inspired it.” read more

Horror News Network’s 2018 Comic Awards: Johnny Craig Named Horror Comic Honoree of the Year

No company has had a greater influence on horror comics than EC Comics.  William Gaines’ controversial publishing line will forever be remembered as the home of Tales from the Crypt, The Haunt of Fear, The Crypt of Terror, along with Sci-fi titles such as Weird Science, and a slew of urban crime titles.

One member of EC’s stable of artists, Johnny Craig (April 25, 1926 – September 13, 2001), distinguished himself early on in the company’s  history, becoming a reliable fan-favorite of those that preferred their comics a little more macabre than most.  Craig’s work graced the majority of EC’s horror comics and he was one of the few creators of his day that handled both writing and art chores on a story.  He would become most famous for his work on The Vault of Horror and Crime Suspense Stories, both penning and illustrating the lead-story for both bi-monthly series.     read more

Remembering Stan Lee’s Influence on the Horror Comic

Stan Lee’s influence on pop culture can not be understated.  The late writer made characters such as Spider-Man, Thor, and Iron Man household names and his fame and notoriety shot into the stratosphere thanks to the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe in 2008.  Millions of people of all ages who have never picked up a comic book, came accustomed to seeing Lee’s signature cameos in countless blockbusters and he remained one of the most recognizable celebrities in Hollywood due to this very reason. read more

DC Comics Pays Homage to Classic EC Horror Comics in October with ‘Cursed Comics Cavalcade’

Taking a page right out of comic history, DC Comics will release a title that is sure to be popular with both horror and super hero fans alike entitled Cursed Comics Cavalcade #1.

The new anthology comic will be out just in time for Halloween on October 10 and will place the best of the DC Universe in Tales from the Crypt-style settings and situations.   Stories featuring Batman, Wonder Woman, Guy Gardner, Swamp Thing, Zatanna, have already been announced for the collection and more are sure to come. read more
