Universal Confirms Two More ‘Halloween’ Films

In a huge announcement for film fans the world over, Universal Studios has confirmed that we will be getting at least two more movies full of Michael Myers. Deadline has reported today that October 16th, 2020 is the official release date for Halloween Kills and October 15th, 2021 will be the date for Halloween Ends.

Jamie Lee Curtis will be back in the role of Laurie Strode while Danny McBride and David Gordon Green will be working on the script. Both films will be directed by Green and produced by Malek Akkad, Jason Blum and Bill Block. While John Carpenter is listed as an executive producer, there is no work yet on what other roles he will have in the next installments. read more

The Next ‘Halloween’ Installment Inches Closer

No official word yet from the folks over at Blumhouse or Universal, but Collider is reporting today that multiple sources are saying that Halloween 2 is set to begin shooting after Labor Day and looking at an October 2020 release. It should come as no surprise to anyone that a film that grossed upwards of 250 million on a budget of 10 million is getting a sequel; especially with the recent rise in popularity of horror films; particularly “remakes” and “re-imaginings”.

Word is that Jamie Lee Curtis, Judy Greeg and Andi Matichak are all expected to return in the roles they played in the 2018 blockbuster surrounded by a new cast of victims. Again, no formal announcements have been made but supposedly the new script was penned by David Gordon Green (Halloween 2018) who is also expected to direct again. Once the announcements are made, I’m sure we’ll also see funnyman Danny McBride back to produce alongside Malek Akkad (son of long-time Halloween franchise producer Moustapha Akkad). read more

‘Halloween (2018)’: The Horror News Network Review

Halloween fans are used to being disappointed. However, after decades of false starts, inconsistency, and mind-bending retcons, our love of the original 1978 masterpiece has remained steadfast and our optimism for an effective follow-up has never been affected by a long line of attempts which never quite hit the high watermark that John Carpenter established with Halloween and arguably maintained with 1981’s Halloween II. Halloween (2018) was supposed to change everything. Directed by David Gordon Green and based on a script by Green and Danny McBride- the duo known for dark and complex non-horror titles such as Eastbound & Down and Vice Principals– the early hype for the film focused on a concerted effort to return to the franchise’s roots, both thematically and narratively. This mission was reinforced by another return of Jamie Lee Curtis as the iconic Laurie Strode, a guest appearance by Nick Castle as The Shape, and John Carpenter’s direct involvement in the franchise by acting as executive producer and providing music for the new film. And then came the trailer- a nearly perfect study in the recreation of the visual and auditory style of the original movie- which resulted in a fever pitch of anticipation for fans who were eager to believe that it was finally happening… he was finally going to come home in style! Unfortunately- and it brings me no pleasure to say this- the greatest moments of the film were all featured in that fateful trailer, and the new Halloween movie suffers greatly due to baffling choices with both story and character. There are fleeting moments in the film which will inspire even the most orthodox Halloween fan, but those moments are earned by the legacy of the franchise rather than the merits of the movie itself. read more

First Images Released For the Upcoming ‘Halloween’ Reboot

If you’re jones-ing for some new Halloween reboot news, you are in luck.  Three new photos from the set have been released by Blumhouse Pictures, and they represent everything true Halloween fans were hoping for. These first glimpses from the set are glorious, and are a great teaser for the first official trailer due out at the end of this week.

Though most associated Danny McBride with the current project since he was the first to break the pre-production news, the Blumhouse Pictures reboot is filled with Hollywood heavyweights from the original film in 1978.  Jamie Lee Curtis reprises her iconic role as Laurie Strode, the brother of psychotic killer Michael Myers.  Original Michael actor Nick Castle returns, and legendary mastermind John Carpenter will executive produce the film as well as lend his unique talents to the final cut again as composer. read more

First Poster for 2018’s ‘Halloween’ is Released

Fans of the Halloween franchise have been pining for a trailer, teaser, poster…any new word about the new Halloween recently wrapped by Blumhouse Productions. Well, today Blumhouse, along with development director Ryan Turek, finally tweeted the first poster for the new film.

Set to release on October 19th, the new Halloween picks up where the original 1978 John Carpenter classic left off. Danny McBride Says ‘Halloween’ Will Pay Homage to Past Sequels

As we reported back in October, the upcoming Halloween film will be a direct sequel to the 1978 film. At that time, original Halloween director John Carpenter said in an interview with Stereogum that the new Halloween takes place “in an alternative reality. It picks up after the first one and it pretends that none of the other [sequels] were made.” That announcement, of course, set off a bunch of angry responses from fans of the franchise.

Just yesterday, speaking with Flickering Myth at the SXSW Film Festival, Halloween director Danny McBride stated that the 2018 Halloween does indeed reference the previous films in the franchise’s storied history. “We do [reference the other movies]. For fans, we pay homage and respect to every Halloween that has been out there.” read more

Production Begins on ‘Halloween’; Additional Cast Members Announced

It may only be January, but Halloween is right around the corner.  According to the “Halloweenmovies” official Twitter account (@Halloweenmovies), Saturday January 13th marked the official start of production on the new Halloween reboot.  Tagging production companies Blumhouse, Trancas Films and Miramax, the message also included announcements of new cast members that are now on board as well.  The tweet can be seen below.

The Halloween remake has caused quite a stir in the horror film community since being announced, unofficially, by comic actor Danny McBride (Aliens: Covenant) last February.  At the time, McBride revealed that he and David Gordon Green (Your Highness, Pineapple Express) had been contracted to co-write the script by Jason Blum and that the new movie would pick up after the events of the original 1978 film (disregarding all sequels.)  Then John Carpenter, who was attached to the project as an executive producer, revealed that the new film would take place in “sort of an alternate reality.”  Plot points have been few and far between, but this latest news on the start of production and the new cast members are a welcome sign that Halloween is progressing. read more

When you close your eyes and imagine Michael Myers of the iconic Halloween franchise, you’re likely picturing the signature shape of Nick Castle slowly stalking the streets of Haddonfield. Many great actors have come along since, but it was Castle who perfected the presence of The Shape in the original 1978 movie. And now… 40 years later… he’s back!
