Ever since Barbara Leigh appeared on the cover of Vampirella Magazine #67 in March of 1978, the vampiric alien from Drakulon has been brought to life by a number of different models across a number of different eras. This trend continued even when Warren Publishing ceased to exist and comic publishers Harris and Vampirella’s current home, Dynamite Entertainment, took over the reins. With the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vampirella and a new series by Christopher Priest and Ergun Gunduz, it was only natural for one of the many covers of the newly launched series to feature a photo cover of one of the most recognizable characters in the history of comics.
With the massive success of Netflix’s “Stranger Things,” it’s no surprise to see it represented heavily by cosplayers at a convention like SDCC where cosplay abounds. “Scoops Ahoy” is an ice cream shop on the show where teenage characters Steve and Robin have jobs. Since the Season 3 debut on July 4, many genre product manufactures have offered a nautical style to supply the fandom demand. Horror News Network staff onsite at SDCC suspected that the ultra-popular “Scoops Ahoy” style outfit would be worn by many cosplayers similar to previous years where newly popular characters such as Negan from “The Walking Dead” had been seen at practically every turn. While this does not show all the cosplayers sporting “Scoops Ahoy” garb, please enjoy the photo samples below. read more
San Diego Comic-Con is in full swing and Horror News Network is there to bring you into the action. The photos below are from the show floor on Thursday, July 18, the first full day of SDCC.
It is WonderCon Weekend in Anaheim, California! This convention is one of the largest on the West coast (64,000 attendees in 2017) and is operated by the same team who bring San Diego Comic-Con to life each year. Known for its wide variety of exhibitors, excellent outside area for cosplay photos, and programs that need an arena to fit the crowds, WonderCon is a Southern California favorite. This year, WognderCon extended their offsite offerings to not just food trucks, but an “experience” as well. Fans could enter AMC’s “The Terror” for a preview of the new show in an atmospheric setting. Also new this year is Future Tech Live in the North Hall for demos of VR gaming. Check out some of our photos below. read more
