If it’s a recent major horror production, screenwriter Gary Dauberman has probably had something to do with its production. His work can be found in Annabelle, It, The Nun, and upcoming projects like It: Chapter 2, the Annabelle sequel, and the Swamp Thing television series, making him one of the most in-demand talents when it comes to successful horror screenplays. Lucky for the horror tweens of the 90s, he’s also attached to a movie version of Nickelodeon’s popular television series, Are You Afraid of the Dark?.
Most horror fans will remember the Nickelodeon show from the early-to-mid 90’s, Are You Afraid of the Dark. A group of teens who referred to themselves as “The Midnight Society” would meet up in the woods and each week one would tell a different scary story by starting off with, “submitted for the approval of The Midnight Society, I call this story…”.
Well on October 11, 2019 Paramount will deliver their feature-length version of the well-loved series. The story is being written by Gary Dauberman, most recently known for co-writing the massive success film It as well as Anabelle and Anabelle:Creation. read more
With the success of horror movies and television programs featuring children as the main characters as of late, it is no wonder that Paramount is mining Nickelodeon’s 1990’s horror anthology Are You Afraid of the Dark? in hopes that it will capture the attention of nostalgic fans and teen viewers alike.
The Hollywood Reporter not only broke the news that the horror anthology for the pre-teen set was getting the greenlight, but that it would also be penned by a writer that is no stranger to horror in the form of It and Annabelle: Creation scribe Gary Dauberman. read more
