Round 2 of the Battle of the Century is finally taking shape.

The veil is starting to lift around the still-unnamed sequel to last year’s blockbuster Godzilla vs. Kong–as a new, more detailed synopsis has been revealed and additional casting has been announced, according to a report on Collider.

The film–shooting now in Australia under the working title of Origins–is being directed by the returning Adam Wingard from a screenplay by Terry Rossio, Jeremy Slater and Simon Barrett. A release date of March 15, 2024 has been set.

The cast includes the returning Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry and Kaylee Hottle–along with newcomers Dan Stevens, Fala Chen, Alex Ferns and Rachel House.

The sequel, according to the updated synopsis, follows the showdown between Godzilla and Kong with a “new adventure pitting Kong and Godzilla against a colossal undiscovered threat hidden within our world that challenges their very existence–as well as our own.”

The film will “delve further into the histories of these Titans, their origins and the mysteries of Skull Island and beyond–while uncovering the mythic battle that helped forge these beings and tied them to humankind forever.”
