Only four episodes of Van Helsing have run, and Syfy has decided to renew the series for a second season according to Deadline. The second season, which will be thirteen episodes, is expected to start production in January 2017. Showrunner Neil Labute said, “We have a wonderful and terrifying road ahead planned for Vanessa, her allies and her enemies. I think this is a world and a story that can be sustained for many years and I am inspired to do so thanks to Syfy’s obvious trust and commitment in the storytellers, cast and crew.”
Kelly Overton stars as Vanessa Helsing, a descendant of the legendary vampire hunter, in the re-imagining of the timeless tale. She is not only immune to vampires, but has the ability to make them human once again. As the last remaining underground vampires attempt to take over America, following a volcano eruption, Van Helsing is woken from a coma and must fight to save the human race. Jonathan Scarfe, Christopher Heyerdahl, David Cubitt, Vincent Gale, Rukiya Bernard, Trezzo Mahoro, Aleks Paunovic, Laura Mennell, Tim Guinee and Paul Johansson co-star.
