Strikes Will Have Impact On Upcoming ‘Alien’ TV Series

The picket lines are taking their toll.

Actors belonging to SAG-AFTRA today voted to launch the guild’s first strike against the film and TV industry since 1980, joining members of the Writers Guild of America holding picket signs. These actions have already affected the much-anticipated FX Alien TV series, according to Variety.

The horror-s/f series–based on the classic 1979 film–will be the first story that takes place in the Alien franchise on Earth. The story is set near the end of this century. But, production schedules are now clouded in uncertainty.

FX’s Alien–written by Noah Hawley and Ridley Scott–is currently stuck in pre-production in Thailand. Variety reports that a mix of SAG-AFTRA and Equity members are key cast members in the show–with two of the leads believed to be SAG-AFTRA members.

What this will mean in the long run for the show is unclear, but the production most likely will have to work around those cast members.
