‘Stranger Things’ Stage Play Drops Teaser Trailer

by Thomas Tuna

Every horror tale has a beginning.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow–a stage adaptation of the hit Netflix series–will debut at London’s Phoenix Theatre this fall, and a new teaser has dropped that reveals that “the beginning of the Stranger Things story might hold the key to what comes next.” Check out the video on this page.

The play–hitting the stage Nov. 17–may be a sort of prequel to the horror series that will wrap up with Season 5 (hopefully) sometime next year. Production has yet to start on the fifth and final season due to the ongoing Writers Guild of America strike.

Based on an original story by series creators Matt and Ross Duffer–as well as Jack Thorne and Kate Trefry–The First Shadow is directed by Stephen Daldry and Justin Martin.

The stage production is set about 25 years before the TV series began–in Hawkins in 1959. The town has normal worries, according to the synopsis: “Young Jim Hopper’s car won’t start, Bob Newby’s sister won’t take his radio show seriously and Joyce Maldonado just wants to graduate and leave town.”

But, when new student Henry Creel arrives, “his family finds that a fresh start isn’t so easy–and the shadows of the past have a very long reach.”
