‘Stranger Things’ Spinoff Is Teased As “Very Different”

The Duffer Brothers have a concept for a spinoff series of Stranger Things that’s “different”.

Bet no one saw that coming.

The fourth season of the Netflix horror-fantasy Stranger Things series will finally debut with Volume 1 in two days–May 27–with the second volume slated to land July 1. And series creators Matt and Ross Duffer already have a spinoff in mind, according to a report in Variety.

Stranger Things is expected to wrap up its run with Season 5 (who knows when), but that most likely will not mean the end of the fascinating story. “There are still many more exciting stories to tell within the world of Stranger Things,” the Duffers said in a statement, “new mysteries, new adventures, new unexpected heroes.”

And at least one of those dreamed-of adventures is a true mystery–to most people. “We do have an idea for a spinoff that we’re super-excited about, but we haven’t told anyone the idea yet–much less written it,” the Duffers said. “We think everyone–including Netflix–will be surprised when they hear the concept because it’s very, very different.”

But, the brothers added, one of the show’s stars has already figured it out. “Somehow, Finn Wolfhard–who is one crazy smart kid–correctly guessed what it was going to be about,” the Duffers said. “But, aside from Finn, no one else knows.”

In the meantime, Stranger Things 4 kicks off Friday, picking up six months after the fateful Battle of Starcourt that ended Season 3. In the first episode, the friends “are separated for the first time–and navigating the complexities of high school hasn’t made things any easier,” according to the synopsis.

At the same time, “a new and horrifying supernatural threat surfaces, presenting a gruesome mystery that–if solved–might finally put an end to the horrors of the Upside Down.”
