If everything works out, Daisy Ridley will go from being a would-be Jedi swinging a mean light saber to a detective trying to solve a horrific beheading. Not too shabby for a 28-year-old.
This will all come to pass if talks are successful between the Star Wars actress and the producers of the horror/thriller The Ice Beneath Her, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The movie from STX Entertainment–which also scooped up the worldwide distribution rights for the film–is based on a 2015 novel by Camilla Grebe. The story follows a detective and criminal profiler who struggles to solve the bizarre beheading of a business leader. Turns out that the terrifying murder, which is far too much like an earlier unsolved killing, becomes a deadly race against time.
It looks like the movie is in good hands–directors who have a solid background in horror. Members of the horror filmmaking group Radio Silence–Matt Bettinelli-Olpin, Tyler Gillett and Chad Villella–will direct the film and act as producers along with Andrew Lazar (American Sniper). Caitlin Parrish will handle the screenplay.
Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett directed the 2019 black comedy/horror hit Ready or Not, written by Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy.
This film, which garnered great reviews from most critics, told the scary story of a newlywed woman who is being haunted by her new husband’s family on her wedding night. Sounds like a nightmare to us.
The movie was a sleeper hit at the box office, taking in $57 million on a budget of just $6 million.
Radio Silence, which was responsible for segments of the popular horror anthology V/H/S and Southbound, also is developing an untitled horror/comedy described as ” ‘Good Boys’ meets ‘The Revenant’.”
Ridley, of course, became an overnight sensation as the feisty Rey in 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens and went on to headline in Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
