Home sweet home–not this time around.
Home Before Dark–a new horror entry from Sony Pictures that’s in early development–is based on the 2020 novel of the same name by Riley Sager, and has landed a director and screenwriter, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Patrick Brice (There’s Someone Inside Your House) will direct from a screenplay from Blair Butler (Hell Fest), and 21 Laps (Stranger Things) is producing the feature. There’s been no word on casting choices, a production schedule or release window at this early stage.
The storyline is unknown at this time, but Sager’s novel follows a young woman named Maggie, “whose family fled their Victorian home 25 years earlier in an event that inspired her father to write a bestselling nonfiction book claiming they experienced a haunting,” according to the description.
Maggie–now an adult–doesn’t recall those events and doesn’t believe her father’s book. But, when she inherits the old family home following her father’s death, “she starts to question if there’s more to the house than she believed.”
