Breaking up is hard to do.

An in-progress film adaptation of the new horror short story It’s Over has been acquired by Sony Pictures, according to a report on Deadline. Given the early stages of development, no release window has been announced.

The adaptation of the 29-page Jack Follman short story does not yet have a director, but veteran genre screenwriter Akela Cooper (The Nun II, M3GAN, Malignant) is on board to handle the script.

The original short story deals with the “painful breakup of a longtime couple,” and reportedly blends horror, humor and social commentary.

The film will be produced by Roy Lee’s Vertigo Entertainment and Scott Glassgold’s Ground Control.
