‘Son Of Kong’ Is Working Title Of ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Sequel

Like father, like son?

The sequel to last year’s Godzilla vsKong blockbuster may turn out to be a family affair, if a recent report from Production Weekly holds water.

A Twitter post from the Kaiju News Outlet–courtesy of screenrant.com–reveals that the sequel’s working title reportedly is Son of Kong and that Adam Wingard may indeed return to helm this film.

There has been no confirmation from Wingard at this time, but the filmmaker has gone on record as saying he would “absolutely love” the opportunity to direct a follow-up to the first film. “The clear starting point we teed up (in the original)–exploring Hollow Earth–has a lot more to do there,” he said.

This report leaves a lot of unanswered questions, or course. Among them, will the sequel put the spotlight on an offspring of Kong, will there be another epic battle between the behemoths or will the Kongs team up against the King of the Monsters?

The sequel–as reported here last week in Horror News Network–is expected to start shooting sometime later this year in Queensland, Australia–specifically along the Gold Coast and the southeast portion of the continent.

The original Godzilla vsKong–directed by Wingard from a screenplay by Eric Pearson and Max Borenstein–dealt with the monumental clash of titans, as humans lured Kong into Hollow Earth to retrieve a power source for a secret weapon to stop Godzilla.

The film–generally praised by critics and fans–raked in more than $468 million worldwide on a budget of approximately $200 million.
