Fabled heavy metal band Slayer will have a three-issue comic series debuting through Dark Horse Comics in early 2017. Metalocalypse writer, Jon Schnepp is set to scribe the comic. Joining him on art duties will be Eisner Award-winning artist Glenn Fabry.
In September 2015, Slayer released their 12th studio album, Repentless. The album received rave reviews and the highest chart debut of the band’s career. BJ McDonnell directed two high-concept and brutal music videos which featured horror heavyweights Bill Moseley, Derek Mears, Tyler Mane, and Danny Trejo.
The comic series looks to be an expansion of the music videos. “It’s been my honor to chronicle the bloody road trip that is the Slayer comic series from Dark Horse/Nuclear Blast,” said writer Jon Schnepp. “Using the band’s music and lyrics from their three decades of albums, while crossing over and through the Repentless music videos by BJ McDonnell, I have woven a tale of betrayal, hate, perspective, loyalty, family, and murder that will need to be experienced through the comic books’ pages.”
Issue one of Slayer: Repentless is set to debut on January 25, 2017. Keep it here for more news on the upcoming series.
