‘Silent Hill’ Creator Working On New Game For 2023

by Thomas Tuna

The imaginative innovator behind the hit Silent Hill horror game series is looking to make another splash in that arena–but gamers will have to be patient for this one.

Keiichiro Toyama this week announced his plans to release an action-adventure game with definite horror overtones sometime in 2023, as reported by ign.com. The game–under development at this time–“will appeal to fans of my precious games,” Toyama said. “If anything, this will be more of a horror-oriented game” with a focus on “a broader entertainment experience.”

This new game–unnamed at this early stage–is being developed by Toyama, producer Kazunobu Sato and game director Junya Okura–who all left Sony to form Bokeh Game Studio.

Sato said the studio is “entering prototype development” now, adding that they hope to “get this game into your hands in about three years from now.” But more information should be on the way soon. Sato and business development manager Yohei Hart indicated that teasers for the game will be posted on social media as soon as possible.

The Silent Hill survival/horror series–which started back in 1999–was published by Konami for PlayStation. Follow-up games were soon released–Silent Hill 2 in 2001 and Silent Hill 3 in 2003. In addition, a reimagining of the original–Silent Hill: Shattered Memories–hit shelves in 2009. The series even spawned two feature films–Silent Hill, in 2006, and Silent Hill: Revelation, in 2012.
