Christmas came a little early for M. Night Shyamalan this year.
Just yesterday, Horror News Network posted the full trailer for Season 3 of the filmmaker’s Apple TV+ series Servant–slated to debut Jan. 21, 2022–and today, Deadline reports that the hoped-for fourth season is indeed on the way.
Shyamalan–who serves as the show’s executive producer and will direct some of the episodes–seemed confident he would have the opportunity to bring the series to the conclusion he had envisioned all along.
“I outlined the whole series over the pandemic,” he said, “and figured out where I wanted it to go and how many episodes it would be. And it came out to 40.” Well, now he has his fourth 10-episode season to play with.
Soon after this news broke, Shyamalan tweeted that the fourth season will also be the final season. There is no word at this time when Season 4 will premiere on Apple TV+.
Servant–created by Tony Basgallop–follows a Philadelphia couple “in mourning after an unspeakable tragedy creates a rift in their marriage and opens the door for a mysterious force to enter their home.”
The ensemble includes Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free and Rupert Grint, with Sunita Mani joining for the cast for the upcoming third season.
Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, praised the series, calling it a “thrill ride” through a “cinematic, unsettling, twist-filled universe. We can’t wait for everyone to see what’s in store as this gripping mystery takes another surprising turn in Season 4.”
