Creepshow returns in 2019 set to debut on Shudder and continues from the original 1982 film created by Stephen King and the late George A. Romero. The series’ new poster has made its first appearance online via Entertainment Weekly, which is a tribute to classic horror comics from the 1940’s and 50’s.
This coming weekend at NY Comic Con, Shudder plans to give guests an exclusive sneak peak at the much anticipated reboot of Creepshow.
The series’ new poster was designed by artist Tim Bradstreet, who’s known for his work on The Punisher comics, with assistance from the show’s executive producer and director Greg Nicotero, who is a horror effects icon to boot and also is one of the masterminds behind AMC’s hit series The Walking Dead.
After getting greenlit in July of this year, general manager of Shudder Craig Engler said this of the new series, “Creepshow is one of the most beloved and iconic horror anthologies from two masters of the genre, George A. Romero and Stephen King. We’re thrilled to continue their legacy with another master of horror, Greg Nicotero, as we bring a new Creepshow TV series exclusively to Shudder members.”
Also at that time, Nicotero said, “Creepshow is a project very close to my heart! It is one of those titles that embraces the true spirit of horror… thrills and chills celebrated in one of its truest art forms, the comic book come to life! I’m honored to continue the tradition in the ‘spirit’ which it was created.”
Released originally in theaters on May 16, 1982, Creepshow was followed by a theatrical sequel titled Creepshow 2 in 1987. A direct-to-video sequel titled Creepshow 3 was released in 2007 but had no involvement from Romero, King or any other parties of the first two films.
With an official release date yet-to-be-determined, Shudder’s Creepshow will premiere in 2019.
