Elevator Game–a horror pic based on an online phenomenon–will stream on Shudder this summer, according to a report on Deadline.

The film–debuting Aug. 11–is directed by Rebekah McKendry (Glorious) from a screenplay by Travis Seppala (Captive). The cast includes Gino Anania, Alec Carlos, Megan Best, Nazarty Demkowicz, Verity Marks, Madison MacIsaac and Samantha Halas.

In Elevator Game, teenager Ryan (Anania) “discovers that the night his sister disappeared, she had played The Elevator Game–a ritual held in an elevator in which players try to travel to another dimension using a set of rules found online,” according to the synopsis. Knowing this, Ryan sets out to find her.

In the film, playing the game involves riding the elevator in a specific sequence to invoke a supernatural creature called The 5th Floor Woman.

“It was several years ago that I first read about The Elevator Game,” McKendry said, “and I was immediately intrigued by the rules, the curse and The 5th Floor Woman. For me, this internet legend was an exciting and chilling entrance into a modern-day ghost story.”
