Shudder Brings Zombie Horror With ‘The Sadness’ In May

by Thomas Tuna

Apparently, the world never runs out of zombies.

The Sadness–a new horror entry about the undead that was shot on location in Taiwan–will debut on Shudder next month following its successful world premiere at Fantasia last summer, according to a report on Deadline.

The zombie flick–which hits the streamer May 12–is the feature debut of director Rob Jabbaz. “It’s been such an enjoyable and bizarre journey getting The Sadness made and distributed,” the filmmaker said. “I’m incredibly excited for everyone to finally see it.”

The Sadness follows a young couple–portrayed by Regina Lei (76 Horror Bookstore) and Berant Zhu (How to Train Your Dragon)–“trying to reunite amid a city ravaged by a plague that turns its victims into deranged, bloodthirsty sadists,” according to the logline. The film also features Tzu Chiang Wang and In Ru Chen.

Michael Paszt of Raven Banner Entertainment–the company handling the film’s worldwide distribution–called the movie “something special. The film reaches heights rarely attained in the horror genre. Rob Jabbaz is a talent to watch.”
