Scream No. 6 is No. 1.

Not only did the much-hyped horror pic lead the domestic box office race in its debut weekend, but it also posted the best initial results of any Scream film, according to a report on Deadline.

Scream VI earned $44.5 million this weekend at the domestic box office, eclipsing the $34.7 million made by Scream 3 back in 2000. Last year’s Scream raked in $30 million domestically in its first weekend, en route to a $100 million-plus take worldwide.

The current Scream installment also earned a B+ CinemaScore, along with PostTrak ratings of 87 percent positive and 74 percent recommended. To read our take on the film, check out Sean McLaughlin’s review here.

Scream VI–directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick–follows the survivors of the last Ghostface massacres as they hit New York City for even bloodier adventures.

The film’s cast includes legacy standouts Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Hayden Panettiere, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding–along with newcomers Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra and Henry Czerny.
