Ghostface and company are off to a scary good start.
Scream VI–which opened everywhere today–enjoyed a promising Thursday preview, raking in $5.7 million from 3,000 theaters, according to a report on Deadline.
Given those numbers, the latest–and much-hyped–entry in the classic horror series is expected to earn a franchise record opening weekend domestic bounty of between $35 million and $40 million, and a global record debut of more than $50 million from 50 territories.
By way of comparison, the Scream VI preview bested the $3.5 million earned by the previous installment, which had a $30-million opening weekend and wound up earning $81 million during its entire run.
Scream VI follows the survivors of the last Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind for the dangers of New York City.
