The box office can be a scary place.
Scream VI–the latest entry in the classic horror franchise–took a hit at the domestic box office this weekend after an impressive opening last week, but still held onto second place, according to a report on Deadline.
The horror pic–which led the domestic box office last weekend with a $44.5 million haul–fell off (not unexpectedly) to $17.5 million this weekend, but still came in No. 2 to the opening weekend of the DC super-hero sequel to Shazam. Scream VI now has a domestic box office total of $76 million.
Scream VI--directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick–follows the survivors of the last Ghostface killings as they leave Woodsboro behind for the dangers of New York City. Turns out Ghostface likes to ride the subway.
Legacy luminaries Courteney Cox, Melissa Barrera, Hayden Panettiere, Jenna Ortega, Jasmin Savoy Brown and Mason Gooding join newcomers Samara Weaving, Dermot Mulroney, Jack Champion, Liana Liberato, Devyn Nekoda, Josh Segarra and Henry Czerny for new bloody battles.
