Ghostface has a new playmate.
Dermot Mulroney has joined the usual cast of characters for the next Scream installment (Scream 6, presumably), according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Mulroney–perhaps best known to genre fans for his roles in Insidious: Chapter 3 and USA’s The Purge–reportedly will play a law enforcement officer of some kind in the film scheduled to start production in Canada over the summer for its scheduled premiere March 31, 2023.
The veteran actor will join the returning Melissa Barrera (Sam Carpenter), Jasmin Savoy Brown (Mindy Meeks-Martin), Mason Gooding (Chad Meeks-Martin) and Jenna Ortega (Tara Carpenter)–along with legacy stars Courteney Cox (Gale Weathers) and Hayden Panettiere, reprising her role as Kirby Reed from Scream 4.
The biggest name missing from that list, of course, is Neve Campbell (as franchise stalwart Sidney Prescott), who reportedly has been approached by the producers, but has yet to commit to returning.
This sixth entry in the Scream franchise will again be directed by Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay by James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick.
