The Black Phone 2–the follow-up to the 2022 horror hit–will hit theaters in summer 2025, and word comes this week that the man behind the cameras for the original will helm the sequel.

Scott Derrickson will return as director of the new film, according to a report on comicbook.com. Producer Ryan Turek said, “Yeah, Scott’s coming back. I think it’s too early to talk about anything else, but Derrickon’s returning.” Derrickson will also write the screenplay with C. Robert Cargill.

The sequel–slated for the big screen June 27, 2025–will also see several of the original cast members reprise their roles–including Ethan Hawke as The Grabber and Mason Thames as Finney Shaw, along with Madeleine McGraw, Jeremy Davies and Miguel Mora.

The original The Black Phone finds young Finney Shaw being abducted and trapped in a soundproof basement by The Grabber. But, when a disconnected black phone starts to ring, the boy hears the voices of the killer’s past victims–voices that want to “make sure what happened to them doesn’t happen to Finney.”
