The much-anticipated sequel to 2019’s Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark got a nugget of good news this week, as busy director Andre Ovredal revealed the film is in active development.

Ovredal–who has been mainly occupied helming the upcoming Dracula-themed The Last Voyage of the Demetertold IGN, “We have a story, we have a script. We’ve been working on the script from late last year into this year.”

Unfortunately, he added, “the process stopped with the strike–but it’s alive, for sure. First COVID and then (Demeter) ate up two years of my life and put a dent in the process.”

At this point, Ovredal is directing the horror sequel, with Dan and Kevin Hageman returning on the screenplay and Guillermo del Toro involved with a “story by” credit.

The original Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark–from Ovredal, the Hageman Brothers and producer del Toro–is based on the children’s book series of the same name by Alvin Schwartz.
