Sam Raimi Set To Helm Reboot Of 1978 Horror Pic ‘Magic’

Is Sam Raimi planning more horror magic?

Raimi–the filmmaker behind the Evil Dead franchise and this year’s box office sensation Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness–is reportedly on board to direct a remake of the 1978 Anthony Hopkins-led horror flick Magic.

This news comes from producer Roy Lee who, during a recent podcast, said he’s working with the famed director on the reboot.

When asked a question about Raimi, Lee said he has only worked with him as a producer on films, but then added “the first time I’m gonna work with him as a director is on a remake of Magic, which is something we’re working on now.”

Lee added that “we’re actually hearing the final versions of the different takes from writers next week. (Sam) loved the original movie and the book by William Goldman.”

Magic–directed by Richard Attenborough from Goldman’s screenplay–stars Hopkins as a ventriloquist who “is at the mercy of his vicious dummy while he tries to renew a romance with his high school sweetheart,” according to the synopsis.

With so many questions still to be answered on this project, keep reading Horror News Network for the latest on the remake of Magic by Sam Raimi.
