Sam Raimi Producing Horror- Comedy ‘You’re Dead Helene’

Acclaimed horror filmmaker Sam Raimi apparently is looking to lighten it up a bit.

Raimi is wearing the producer’s hat for You’re Dead Helene–described as a supernatural rom-com–that recently was acquired by TriStar Pictures, according to a report on Deadline.

The movie is based on a short film written and directed by Michiel Blanchart, which won Best Short Film at Sitges and the Oscar-qualifying Grand Prize at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. The new feature will be directed by Blanchart and produced by Raimi, Rob Tapert, Michael Goldberg and Boris Van Gils.

You’re Dead Helene–which has yet to announce casting choices or a production schedule–is “touching and terrifying,” Raimi said. “Michiel is one of the few modern directors who can balance humor and terror, and he does it in an exciting, new way.”

Raimi, of course, is well-known to horror fans as the creator of the Evil Dead franchise (writing and directing the original trilogy) and the director of Darkman and the original SpiderMan trilogy. Raimi–who also produced Don’t Breathe and Crawl–is putting the finishing touches on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, due in theaters May 6, 2022.
