Ryan Gosling On ‘Wolfman’ Role: “It Seems Really Exciting”

When’s the next full moon?

It’s been a couple of years now since the news broke that Ryan Gosling was stepping into the furry footprints of Lon Chaney Jr. and tackling the iconic lead in the next retelling of Wolfman. There has been very little to report on the film since then, but the star recently opened up on the part and his director.

Gosling–in an interview with Collider–praised director Derek Cianfrance, with whom the actor has worked before in Blue Valentine and The Place Beyond the Pines. “I would do anything with Derek,” Gosling said. “But the idea of doing something like (Wolfman) just seems really exciting.”

Gosling added that the upcoming film is “new for both of us. But, in some way, I feel like it’s kind of the movie we’ve made already a few times–but in literal form. It’s sort of like the opportunity to make the literal version of what we’ve been hacking away at.”

The Golden Globe Award-winning actor also expressed a great desire to play this classic monster. The Wolfman, Gosling said, “is just an all-time character. He has always been on a bucket list for me.”

Cianfrance–who is also writing the screenplay–said “horror movies were my first love. Coupled with the opportunity to collaborate with Ryan again, this is truly a dream come true.”
