Rue Morgue and MVD Announce New Video on Demand Service

With the success of streaming content, and the advent of genre-specific platforms designed to deliver instantaneous scares to subscribers, it was only a matter of time before someone else entered the marketplace.  MVD Entertainment Group and perennial fan-favorite horror magazine Rue Morgue have teamed up for this exact purpose with the launch of their new streaming Video on Demand service, the Midnight Movie Society.

According to the official press release, MMS will specialize “… in Extreme Underground, Taboo and Cult Horror movies. Now genre fans can gain access to a film library of shocking underground, outrageous gore, creature features, cult classics and much more. Those with a taste for the weirdest and wildest reaches of genre cinema will not be disappointed!”

Ed Seaman, C.O.O. of MVD Entertainment Group, highlighted what make his new service different, stating that “The bigger platforms are catering to the masses and have gone puritanical in many cases, making it very difficult for filmmakers to reach their audience.  MVD has a great deal of this type of content and when it is live on major platforms, it performs really well. Maybe too well for some of the mainstream platforms.”

Adrianna Gober, Director of Programming, re-emphasized the boundary-pushing content that will be offered from Midnight Movie Society, saying that “…larger streaming platforms continue to crack down on content, there’s an urgent need to create a space for boundary-pushing films unencumbered by strangling content restrictions.  As a lifelong horror fan, I’m proud and excited to be working with MVD Entertainment Group and genre champions Rue Morgue Magazine to bring Midnight Movie Society to the masses.”

And if the more extreme horror isn’t your cup of tea, the service “…will also cater to more traditional horror fare as well, pulling from the thousands of film hours from in MVD’s vast catalog”, along with some “fresh” and “unusual” content provided by Rue Morgue.

Rodrigo Gudino, President of Rue Morgue, is also “…thrilled to be partnering with MVD to give fans access to films that are becoming increasingly harder to come by.”

Midnight Movie Society (naturally) debuts on Friday, September 13 on iOS, Roku and the world wide web.
