Big news was revealed today as Paramount+ announced that Rosemary’s Baby prequel, Apartment 7A will premiere this fall on the streaming network.

Directed by Natalie Erika James, Apartment 7A stars Julia Garner, Dianne Wiest (Mayor of Kingstown), Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe) and Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean), Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka).

Deadline reports that the official synopsis is: “When a struggling young dancer (Garner) suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself drawn in by dark forces when a peculiar, well-connected older couple promises her a shot at fame. Set in 1965 New York City, the film tells the story prior to Roman Polanski’s horror classic Rosemary’s Baby, exploring what happened in the apartment before Rosemary moved in.”

Apartment 7A is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season,” said Jeff Grossman, EVP Programming at Paramount+. “Director Natalie Erika James and the prodigious creative team have crafted a chilling and clever new entry into the genre.”

Directed by Roman Polanski and released on June 12, 1968 Rosemary’s Baby starred Mia Farrow, John Cassavetes, Ruth Gordon, Sidney Blackmer, Maurice Evans and Ralph Bellamy. The film earned $33.4 million at the box office on a budget of only $3.2 million.

The film was nominated for multiple Golden Globe Awards and two Academy Award nominations, winning Best Supporting Actress (for Ruth Gordon) and the Golden Globe in the same category.

In 2014, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.”
