Blumhouse has announced that Ronny Chieng (Asian Comedian Destroys America!, Crazy Rich Asians) has been cast in Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s tech horror thriller, M3GAN, for Universal.
In the film, Allison Williams plays Gemma, a brilliant roboticist at a toy company. She uses artificial intelligence to develop M3GAN, a life-like doll programmed to be a kid’s greatest companion and a parent’s greatest ally. After unexpectedly gaining custody of her orphaned niece, Gemma enlists the help of the M3GAN prototype – a decision that has unimaginable consequences.
Jason Blum and James Wan are producing the thriller.
In 2015, cHIENG moved to New York City after being hired as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah on Comedy Central. In 2016 the-up-and-comer was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch” in 2016. Ronny also co-wrote and starred in his own comedy series Ronny Chieng: International Student, which aired on ABC in Australia, the BBC, Comedy Central Asia, and Comedy Central in the USA. In 2018, he starred in the Warner Bros. smash hit comedy film Crazy Rich Asians based on the best-selling book by Kevin Kwan. He can currently be seen in Amazon’s film Bliss and will next be seen in Marvel’s Shang-Chi and the legend of the Ten Rings premiering in September.
