We have sad news to report today as production designer Ron Cobb passed away today at the age of 83 of Lewy body dementia. He is survived by his wife of 48 years and his son, according to a report on The Hollywood Reporter.
Cobb had his hands in many Hollywood classics including Alien, Aliens, Star Wars, Back to the Future, Conan the Barbarian, Close Encounters of the Third Kind and E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Cobb created the exterior and interior of the Nostromo ship in Alien and the earth colony complex in Aliens. His creative contributions extended beyond the look of the film: he inspired Dan O’Bannon to give the xenomorph acidic blood and even coined Weylan-Yutani.
He also brought to life several of the cantina creatures for Star Wars and came up with weaponry and sets for Conan the Barbarian, he also worked on the DeLorean in Back to the Future.
We here at Horror News Network extended our condolences and sympathies to Cobb’s friends and family.
