The doctor will see you! The finishing touches (and spells) are now in place for the return of the Sorcerer Supreme.
Director Sam Raimi has been busy the last few weeks with necessary reshoots on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, and those adjustments and additions are now complete, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The film is on track for its May 6, 2022 premiere.
Those reshoots reportedly may have had something to do with the goings-on in Spider–Man: No Way Home (now in theaters) and the Disney+ Loki series. And the new additions may even include some surprise cameos and character introductions–perhaps even an appearance by “another” Doctor Strange, if some reports prove true.
Doctor Strange star Benedict Cumberbatch seemed pleased with the way things are turning out. He said he was “very excited,” during a recent interview. “Sam Raimi’s at the helm–so expect extraordinary things. We’re making it even better. It comes out in May, so I guess you’ll have to wait until then.”
Cumberbatch will be joined in the cast by Elizabeth Olsen (WandaVision’s Wanda Maximoff, the Scarlet Witch), Rachel McAdams as Christine Palmer, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Mordo, Benedict Wong as Wong and newcomer Xochitl Gomez as America Chavez.
Olsen is on record as saying the film is “very scary. It’s old Sam Raimi. They’re trying to create the scariest Marvel movie.” Screenwriter Michael Waldron added that the movie has been steered in “a scarier direction. Just because Sam does that so well.”
The much-anticipated (and much-delayed) Marvel sequel to the 2016 hit film–directed by Raimi from a screenplay by Waldron and Jade Bartlett–will follow Doctor Strange as he continues his research on the Time Stone. But, he is “hindered by a friend-turned-enemy, resulting in Strange unleashing unspeakable evil.”
The Marvel Comics character of Doctor Strange–created by writer/editor Stan Lee and artist Steve Ditko–first appeared in Strange Tales No. 110 way back in 1963.
