Republic Pictures Has Acquired Rights To Horror Pic ‘Azrael’

by Thomas Tuna

Freedom always comes with a price.

Azrael–the latest supernatural horror entry from C2 Motion Picture Group–has been picked up by Republic Pictures (an arm of Paramount Pictures) for distribution, according to The Hollywood Reporter. No release window has yet been announced.

The film–directed by E.L. Katz (The Haunting of Bly Manor) from a screenplay by Simon Barrett (You’re Next)–stars genre veteran Samara Weaving (Scream VI, Ready or Not).

Set in a world where no one speaks, the movie follows a “devout, female-led community as it hunts down a young woman who has escaped imprisonment.” Finally recaptured, Azrael (Weaving) will now be sacrificed “to pacify an ancient evil deep within the surrounding wilderness–but she will stop at nothing to ensure her freedom and survival.”

The film is produced by Dan Kagan, Dave Caplan and Barrett–with Jason Cloth and Katrin Kissa serving as executive producers.
