How much scenery will he chew with those fangs?

Nicolas Cage takes on the legendary mantle of Dracula in the upcoming Universal Pictures horror-comedy Renfield–set for a theatrical release April 14, 2023–and the man playing the titular role says Cage’s performance is not to be missed.

Nicholas Hoult–speaking to The Hollywood Reporter–said he doesn’t think there are “two more iconic things than Dracula and Nic Cage. So, to put those together and be in scenes with him and see the things he brings to the character–I loved every single moment.”

Hoult added he’s “excited for people to see what he’s done. It’s original, but it’s steeped in a lot of Dracula history and folklore. It’s exciting–even though it’s a very bizarre, elevated tone for a horror-comedy. So, I’m excited for it.”

Renfield–which tells the strange story of Dracula’s famous lackey–is directed by Chris McKay from a screenplay by Ryan Ridley. The storyline follows Renfield, “the loyal, tortured aide of Dracula who has been forced to procure his master’s prey and do his every bidding,” according to the synopsis.

But now, Renfield wants to find a life “outside the shadow of the Prince of Darkness–if only he can figure out how to end his co-dependency.” There’s the door to the castle–use it.

The feature also stars Awkwafina, Ben Schwartz, Adrian Martinez, Shohreh Aghdashloo, Bess Rous and James Moses Black.
